Day 1: Kona/Punalu`u
Our adventure begins at 8am in the lobby of the Royal Kona Hotel. After a welcome meeting and a tour overview we head south to the Bay of Captain Cook, where the famous explorer was slain. We will hike on a historic trail built by Hawaiian Kings, wander through an ancient Hawaiian village, before dipping into the ocean at Two Step – a famous snorkeling site. You will have a chance to see spinner dolphins cruising by. Tonight we pitch our camp at Black Sand Beach under tropical palm trees where turtles sleep on the lava sand.

Day 2: Volcanoes NP
This morning after a relaxing breakfast the group can enjoy snorkel with sea turtles in the waters of Black Sand Beach. In the afternoon we drive to Volcanoes National Park to trek through a steaming volcanic crater and its sulfur banks. At night you might get a chance to see the lava glow in the volcano. Tonight we sleep in cabins.

Day 3: Puna Area
After breakfast you have an option to hike Napau Craters or you might want to do the Crater rim walk and see what lava can do to the landscape. In the afternoon we will hang out at Hilo’s Farmers Market, grab lunch, indulge in tropical fruit and chill with some local hippies. Then on to the ocean hot springs at Isaac Hale Beach Park. Tonight hang at Uncle Awa Farmers Market for dinner and music jam.

Day 4: Puna Area
Today we head to the most authentic place in Hawaii. We will snorkel in the Champagne Tide Pools or trek to the local beach – Kehena Black Sand. We will hike out to Kalapana Town, which was partially destroyed by lava flow in 1990. This afternoon you have an option to trek out to the lava fields. Tonight we sleep under the stars by the ocean.

Day 5: Waikui
This morning we explore the lava desert on Manuka Keas slope at 3000 meters where massive cinder cones dot the landscape. Then we continue along the scenic Onomea drive, this charming road winds through a beautiful rainforest. We will end our day with a hike to the falls in Akaka Falls State Park.

Day 6: Waikui/Kona
Today we will trek into Waipio Valley, walk to ancient ruins and incredible beaches at Kaloko Historic Park. You will have time to do last minute shopping before we have our goodbye dinner at a local`s favorite restaurant. The tour will end tonight at 7pm.
